»From the foggy crucible of St. Gallen, in a mail van to Rehetobel. From there on foot to Heiden and to the village of Thal, home of my maternal forebears, which lies nestled in the valley as if in a green cradle. After lunch, up trough the vineyards of the Buchberg to the pub Zum Steinernen Tisch, which offers a wide view over the region around Lake Constance. Later to the idyllic hamlet of Buchen trough a fierce storm, over the Rorschacherberg, and on to Rorschach. Return by train.« (Walk on June 27, 1937, p. 13)
