»We start off at a sharp tempo for Lichtensteig, the main town in Toggenburg, thirty kilometers away. We take narrow, lonely pathways, where we meet only a few churchgoers. ... Degersheim, a tidy little village. Over a hill to Lichtensteig, which we reach four hours later. Hearty lunch near the town square; afterward, a pastry shop where we each buy a sack of Biberli cookies to take home. Return by train to Herisau. Beer at the station restaurant, and then a crisp Neuchâtel wine at the Eidgenössisches Kreuz, where Robert feels particularly at ease.« (Walk on April 15, 1938, p. 16)
