Out now: Lika Nüssli: »Für die Katz. All for Nothing«
Jungle Books Verlag has just published the book Für die Katz. All for Nothing by the artist Lika Nüssli. The book was produced in conjunction with the exhibition Lika Nüssli: Für die Katz at the Robert Walser Centre.
Lika Nüssli has read through the nearly one thousand articles that Walser wrote for newspapers and magazines between 1898 and 1933: texts about animals, people, landscapes, art and life. A single sentence, an image or a mood was enough to evoke artistic inspiration – from which watercolours emerged. The numbers on the pictures refer to the numbering of the respective texts in the Bern edition of Robert Walser’s works.
The result is a unique dialogue: Walser’s clearly drawn scenes encounter Nüssli’s own stories and transformations, demonstrating just how vivid and surprisingly relevant these texts remain to this day.
